About

Join the worldwide celebration of music on June 21!

Make Music is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the FĂȘte de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

Make Music Middletown is brought to you by the City of Middletown Arts & Culture Office/MCA in collaboration with Middlesex Music Academy, downtown and citywide businesses, organizations, community members, and arts stakeholders. Our mission is to contribute to the cultural identity, economy and quality of life of Middletown supporting arts, heritage, cultural and business activities and organizations.

Make Music Day Connecticut is being administered in partnership with Make Music Day Alliance and with support of the Department of Economic & Community Development/CT Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Make Music Day is an international movement which encourages free, community-wide, musical celebrations in cities worldwide! Every year, the celebration is held on June 21, the summer solstice, in more than 800 communities around the world. Make Music Day is modeled after a Parisian tradition (FĂȘte de la Musique) that began in 1982 as a tribute to the Summer Solstice. More specifically, each June 21st Paris is filled with musicians of all kinds performing for anyone to enjoy at no cost. In 2007, FĂȘte de la Musique crossed the Atlantic with the debut of Make Music New York. Ever since, cities around the world have been starting their own Make Music days.
