Ever wanted to play guitar? Got 15 minutes?
On June 21, aspiring Claptons can pick up a few pointers from some 50 guitar teachers located in the pedestrian plazas around Times Square. Between 1pm and 5pm, they will give free fifteen-minute lessons to all comers, with guitars available on loan for those without.
Among the teachers will be one of Times Square’s most famous denizens, The Naked Cowboy, along with teachers from the NYC Guitar School, and specialists in jazz and experimental genres.

The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum is hosting free, group guitar lessons for Make Music Day. In just 25 minutes, aspiring guitarists will learn basic chords and strumming techniques through familiar country songs. Guitars provided. Swing by and learn to play basic guitar!

Free Ukulele Lessons
Over thirty Mass Appeal Ukulele events are scheduled on June 21, open to all players – including absolute beginners. Many events start out with a free lesson (check the listings for details), and all participants will receive Alfred Music’s “It’s Ukulele Time” primer for beginning players.

Nearly all of this year’s Mass Appeal Harmonica jams begin with free mini-lessons for beginners. Hohner is generously providing 100 free harmonicas for each event – take the instrument home, and take the first step towards becoming a harmonica master!

Free Keyboard Lessons
Have you ever wanted to learn how to play the piano, but don’t have time for lessons?
For this year’s Make Music Day, Yamaha Clavinova dealers across the country will invite the public to come to their stores and learn how to play a song in less than fifteen minutes – even for those who have never before touched an instrument. Available songs will include the Game of Thrones theme, “Abide with Me”, “I Can’t Make You Love Me” (Bonnie Raitt), “Time in a Bottle” (Jim Croce), and “A Sky Full of Stars” (Coldplay).
Participants will receive free sheet music to continue practicing at home, and can enter to win a free Yamaha Clavinova.
