Congratulations on making it this far, and this scale, being the one that most people learn first, should be very easy. With this in mind, let’s try our best to give respect to this scale, rather than thinking of it as being simple. Pay close attention to it in the same way you would for the key you find most challenging. Look for new things, and more importantly, listen for new things!
Here are a few things you might try if you find this scale too simple; play it in thirds, fourths and fifths; play it in triads and in sevenths; play it in stacks of fourths (i.e. 1, 4, 7; 2, 5, 8 etc). Challenge yourself to make it interesting, and to find the music contained within the scale.
