About
Make Music Day Berkeley is a free, citywide celebration that turns Berkeley into one big stage, inviting everyone to make, share, and experience music in all its forms. Each year on June 21, we fill parks, sidewalks, plazas, shops, and unexpected corners of Downtown and beyond with live performances, participatory music-making, and joyful collaborations.
From indie bands and DJs to choirs, student ensembles, classical players, and first-time performers, Make Music Day is built for all ages, all genres, and all skill levels. Bring your instrument, your voice, your curiosity, or just your ears. Whether you’re performing, hosting, volunteering, or wandering from set to set, you’re part of a day that celebrates creativity, connection, and Berkeley’s vibrant music community.

Key dates
- May 21 – Deadline to sign up
- June 1 – Deadline to confirm your performance
Who can join
Artists of all kinds are welcome: students, amateurs, educators, DJs, choirs, music collectives, and working professionals. We also need venues and hosts, businesses, organizations, residents, and public-facing spaces that want to open their doors (or sidewalks!) to live music.
How it works
Artists and venues sign up using our online match-making platform. Each participant creates a profile:
Venue/Space profiles include contact info, preferred hosting hours, what styles of music you’re interested in, and what you can provide (power, chairs, water, shade, etc.). Photos, links, and social handles are welcome.
Artist profiles include contact info, audio/video samples, and the type(s) of music you perform, plus optional photos, websites, and social links.
Match-making
After profiles are live, venues can browse artists and artists can browse venues. Either side can send a performance request, including the desired set length and timing. Requests can be accepted or declined by either party, and once confirmed, your performance is officially scheduled.
Once you’re confirmed
Confirmed performances appear on our live, interactive map so the public can explore the day in real time and plan their route across Berkeley.
Good to know
All performances are free and open to the public. Our team supports participants by helping finalize details, coordinating logistics where needed, and promoting the event across web, email, and social channels, so you can focus on making music.
