Make Music Day is a worldwide celebration of music held annually on the first day of summer. Originating in France in 1982 as Fête de la Musique, the event was created with a simple idea: music should be everywhere, and everyone should have the opportunity to participate. What began as a national celebration has grown into a global movement taking place in more than 1,000 cities across over 100 countries.
Unlike traditional music festivals, Make Music Day is free and open to anyone who wants to perform. Professional musicians, students, church groups, garage bands, solo artists, and first-time performers are all encouraged to share their talents with the community. The goal is simple—bring people together through the universal language of music.
In 2026, Bolivar joins this international tradition with its First Annual Make Music Day Bolivar, hosted by the City of Bolivar and Bolivar Main Street. The event will take place on June 21 at the Bolivar Farmers Market, transforming the venue into a vibrant gathering place filled with live music, community spirit, and summer fun.
Throughout the day, local and regional musicians will perform a variety of musical styles, creating an atmosphere where residents and visitors alike can discover new talent, support local artists, and celebrate the arts. Whether you’re performing on stage, listening from the crowd, or simply enjoying a beautiful summer day with friends and family, Make Music Day Bolivar offers something for everyone.

Whether you’re a solo artist, band, church group, school ensemble, choir, instrumentalist, or simply someone who loves to perform, we’d love to have you join us for Make Music Day Bolivar on June 21 at the Bolivar Farmers Market.
Participation is free and open to musicians of all ages and experience levels. From seasoned performers to first-time musicians, everyone is welcome to help fill Bolivar with music during this worldwide celebration.
