Make Music Cedar Rapids

Make Music Cedar Rapids

Thank you for making the city sound different.

On June 21, Cedar Rapids joined the global Make Music Day celebration with music in businesses and public spaces across the city.

Some performances happened. Some were cut short. Some never got a fair chance because of weather. But every performer, host, partner, and attendee helped support Cedar Rapids music.

Your feedback will help improve Make Music Cedar Rapids, shape future citywide music events, and guide the work of Cedar Rapids Soundcheck.

About Soundcheck

Cedar Rapids Soundcheck is a community-facing effort to support, connect, and grow the local music ecosystem.

It brings together musicians, venues, educators, industry professionals, businesses, community organizations, and residents around shared goals: stronger communication, more live music opportunities, better support for local creatives and venues, and a more visible music scene in Cedar Rapids.

Soundcheck grew out of the Cedar Rapids Music Census and Music Ecosystem Action Plan, which identified the need for stronger coordination, clearer communication, regular programming, and better support for the people and places that make music happen.

What Happened This Year

Make Music Cedar Rapids brought together performers, hosts, businesses, public spaces, community partners, and neighborhood locations for a one-day celebration of music.

This first year helped test how performers and hosts connect, how residents find music across the city, what support participants need, and how the event can grow in future years.

Even with weather challenges, the event created a foundation to build from.
