Make Music Day at Meyer Park in Gulf Shores!
The City of Gulf Shores is excited to join the global Make Music Day Celebration with a free event on Saturday, June 21, at Meyer Park. Make Music Day coincides every year with the summer solstice and brings together people of all ages and skill levels to make music on the longest day of the year. The celebration is a free and open invitation for anyone, regardless of skill level, to create, enjoy, perform, teach, learn, and experience the making of music.
The City of Gulf Shores Special Events Team is partnering with the Frank Brown Songwriters and Gulf Shores High School to present Make Music Day at Meyer Park with the following performances:
Group Therapy
4:00-5:20 p.m.
Get ready for some musical therapy for your soul as the Group Therapy Trio brings their unique modern nostalgic sound. This trio boasts three vocal divas, Lisa Christian, Kay Sorrells and June Hurston—a fusion of experienced and professionally trained singers with a tight and pure three-part harmony. Audiences will love Group Therapy’s one-of-a-kind bluesy style and get carried away on the lyrical journey, as the trio weaves together a tapestry of songs that seamlessly blend familiar favorite tunes with new material that will soon be the songs you simply cannot get out of your head. Included are memorable tunes from the Everly Brothers (“All I Have to Do is Dream”) to the pistol Annies (“Hell on Heels”) and original songs with a story slipped in between.
Gulf Shores High School
5:30-6:00 p.m.
Some of our very own talented Gulf Shores High School students, Fiona Douglas, Luiza Espinheira, Kate Garner, and Valentina Watts, will perform musical singing acts, including “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman and “All of Me” by John Legend. These talented Gulf Shores High School students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and perform songs that everyone will love.
Al & Cathy
6:00-7:30 p.m.
Al and Cathy are an acoustic duo that play a variety of classic rock songs from the 60’s to present day with a splash of country. They both play multiple instruments and have been in the music industry most of their lives. Fate brought this Massachusetts man and Alabama woman together, and after moving to the Gulf Coast area from southwestern Florida in 2011, they began their music career in this area. Playing hits from Fleetwood Mac, Jim Croce, Neil Diamond, TLC, Peter Frampton, Johnny Cash, CCR, Jethro Tull, The Eagles, and many more artists, Al and Cathy have something to offer to everyone.
“We are excited to bring this International Day of Music-making to Gulf Shores and encourage everyone to find their inner musician,” said Grant Brown, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Director. “Make Music Day is one way we focus on the importance of the arts and culture in our community.”
Make Music Day at Meyer Park is a rain-or-shine event. Our Library and Recreation staff will be onsite with fun activities for everyone to take part in! Food trucks will be set up for those wishing to purchase food, and the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber will be onsite selling beverages for all ages to enjoy!
