A free, one-hour blues harp workshop open to all ages and all experience levels- no prior musical experience required. Led by ART Music Director Oliver Pigott, an introduction to the blues harp, it's history, and it's place in the American musical tradition. Learn basic techniques, simple blues patterns, and how to find your sound on the harmonica. Explore the connection between the blues harp and the rich musical heritage of the Delta Triangle and Tennessee. The blues harp is one of the most soulful, portable, and deeply American instruments ever made. Born in the same cultural crossroads as the music of the Delta Triangle, the blues harp has been in the hands of legends from Sonny Boy Williamson to Bob Dylan and Little Walter. On Make Music Day, Oliver Pigott brings that tradition to The Strand Theatre- and every participant walks away with their very own harmonica to keep.
