Circle Singing

Make Music Day

Finding spontaneous harmony.

This year, with leadership support from the Cheswatyr Foundation, Make Music Day is launching a national program of Circle Singing — an improvised vocal experience where everyone is welcome.

Popularized by Grammy-winning artist Bobby McFerrin, Circle Singing invites people to create music together on the spot, layering harmonies, rhythms, and melodies without sheet music or preparation. It’s about making music in the moment, connecting through sound, and feeling the joy of spontaneous creation.

Free Circle Singing events are taking place on June 21 around the country, including a 24-hour marathon in New York City led by the Gaia Music Collective. Scroll down to find one near you!

If you’re interested in starting your own Circle Singing event on Make Music Day, email maddie@makemusicday.org.
