Kyo-Shin-An Shakuhachi Ensemble
The Kyo-Shin-An Shakuhachi Group, led by Grand Master James Nyoraku Schlefer, performs classic music for shakuhachi known as Honkyoku. Originally created as a form of breathing meditation, this unique and powerful music transports listeners to the mountains and Zen temples of Japan. Shakuhachi is a traditional Japanese bamboo flute played vertically and the repertoire has been handed down for centuries in an unbroken tradition. The group plays as an ensemble of 6-8 players, as well as duo, trio and solo pieces.
