PLAYFIELD
Playfield offers the musical equivalency of a walk through New York, meandering through the city’s conflicts, unparalleled diversity, and mutual harmony. The improvising group is comprised of Daniel Carter (Winds), Luisa Muhr (Voice), Ayumi Ishito (Tenor Sax and Electronics), Eric Plaks (Piano and Rhodes), Aron Namenwirth (Guitar and Electronics), Yutaka Takahashi (Guitar and Electronics), Zachary Swanson (Bass), and Jon Panikkar (Drums). As the pandemic brought much spontaneous collaboration between diverse musicians in small clubs from Brooklyn to Harlem to an abrupt halt, this eight-part group emerged organically joining up for live sidewalk concerts. Playfield glances at the music of possibility, from the shadows of systemic injustice and pandemic to a city and an art form that remain electrifyingly resilient. In 2022, Playfield released their first studio album, 'Stepping Out.' and followed up with 2nd album "Magic Heart."
