Boom Whackers by Mark Fetterly
Mark Fetterly will be teaching audience members how to perform on Boom Whackers. A Boom Whacker is a percussion instrument. They are lightweight, hollow, color-coded plastic tubes, tuned to a musical pitch by length. The pitch of the instrument is determined by the length of the tube. The longer the tube is, the lower its pitch. The tubes are most commonly hit with a hand, against the floor or other parts of the human body. In bucket drumming sessions, participants are given distinctly different pitched tubes; a conductor directs participants to strike their tubes in an order that produces a melody. Mark Fetterly is Theater Director at Wellington High School and Boynton Beach Community High School. He will teach the audience to play music using Boom Whackers.
