Boom Whackers by Tony Rataj
Tony Rataj will be teaching audience members how to perform on Boom Whackers. A Boom Whacker is a percussion instrument. They are lightweight, hollow, color-coded plastic tubes, tuned to a musical pitch by length. The pitch of the instrument is determined by the length of the tube. The longer the tube is, the lower its pitch. The tubes are usually hit with a hand, against the floor or other parts of the human body. In Boom Whacker sessions, participants are given distinctly different pitched tubes and a conductor directs participants to strike their tubes in an order that produces a melody. Tony Rataj has led Boom Whacker groups of many kinds.
