MAKE MUSIC SEATTLE TO GO VIRTUAL THIS YEAR
Local and National Organizers and Musicians Have Developed New, Creative, Social Distanced Ways for Anyone to Participate in the Annual Global Celebration on June 21
Seattle, May 14th, 2020 – Make Music Seattle is going virtual this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Make Music Seattle is part of Make Music Day, the worldwide music celebration held each June 21, the summer solstice. Typically featuring free outdoor concerts, performances, music lessons jam sessions and other musical events on streets, sidewalks, parks and public spaces in Seattle and across the U.S., this year’s Make Music Day will take a virtual approach to encourage all people, of all musical abilities, to celebrate the joy of making music. Rainier Avenue Radio (www.RainierAvenueRadio.World will broadcast via live stream events held in Seattle communities and around the world. Over 85 U.S. cities and the entire states of Connecticut, Hawaii, Vermont and Wisconsin will take part in Make Music Day 2020, further demonstrating the power of music to unite and uplift people, spread joy and build community amid this challenging and unprecedented time.
Make Music Day began in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, and has spread to over 1,000 cities across 120 countries.
Highlights of Make Music Seattle will include:

“Tiny” Marching Bands walking through the Seattle downtown Waterfront observing social distancing guidelines – Individual brass and wind players will parade through Seattle communities, by themselves, playing band repertoire to people listening from their homes or workplaces. These Pied Pipers (without rats or children) can bring musical joy in a year when parades are far and few between.

Performances at the Waterfront stage with NO AMPLIFICATION SOUND SYSTEM heard exclusively on Rainier Avenue Radio. Listen through your phone or any internet device

Bedroom Studios – Bedroom Studios will offer a window into music production, and the challenge of producing with completely unknown inputs, bringing music makers together from bedroom to bedroom.

Bash the Trash – The performers and educators of Bash the Trash are offering their innovative designs for wind, percussion and string instruments for an exciting new approach to building instruments from everyday refuse. These amazing instruments tackle issues of waste and offer us an opportunity to look at “trash” in a new way.

Live From Home – In partnership with Make Music Australia and Make Music China, the Make Music Alliance invites everyone to post a musical performance from home on June 21, and tag three friends to challenge them to do the same.
