Aimee Kringle is the owner and instructor of NoteWorthy Music Studio in Rice Lake and Menomonie, Wisconsin, where she teaches piano, band instruments, steel pan, ukulele, and beginning guitar to students of all ages. She is also a Lecturer of Music at the University of Wisconsin–Stout, teaching music appreciation, jazz history, rock music history, and class piano courses. This engaging presentation and performance introduces audiences to the unique sounds and fascinating history of the steel pan, the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago and the only acoustic instrument invented in the twentieth century. The session features live performances of popular, traditional, and contemporary music on the steel drums while exploring the instrument’s remarkable journey from discarded oil barrels to sophisticated musical instruments played around the world.
